First of all, we’re sorry to hear that. It’s a very annoying and inconvenient problem to have. There is no one answer for why your toilet is leaking; it depends on where it’s leaking from, first, and then working backwards to find the culprit for why it is leaking. Some common reasons are that bolts have come loose, or the wax ring is not sealed. Ideally, you want this to be the cause because it is a very fixable problem.
Trickier causes are misalignment of pipes and valves, or cracks in the toilet bowl or tank.
If you have a leaking toilet, contact us immediately and we will come and inspect the issue as soon as possible.
It depends on the type of leak you have and how much confidence you have in your own handy work. If your tap is dripping without explanation (it not being turned off properly, for example), or leaking from the base, it could be an issue with the rubber seal or a worn valve seat, which can be replaced.
If you feel like this is something you can handle on your own, there are a lot of ‘how tos’ to follow. The only issue is, if something goes wrong you may risk ending up with a bigger problem than when you started. If the water coming from the tap is contained within the sink, it might not need to be considered an emergency.
However, we do suggest a plumber is called to assess the problem properly.
